What latency does this tool measure?
It measures real HTTP round-trip time from your browser to each datacenter node โ an approximation of ping. Compared to provider-advertised "theoretical latency", browser-based testing better reflects your everyday experience with that datacenter.
Is browser-based testing different from ICMP ping?
Yes. Browser tests include concurrency and TLS handshake overhead, so numbers run slightly higher than ICMP ping โ but they are closer to real page and API load times. When judging route quality, relative ranking and success rate across nodes matter more than a single absolute value.
Why do results vary so much at different times of day?
International links are commonly congested during evening peak hours (8-11pm local), raising both latency and packet loss. Test multiple times and prioritize peak-hour performance โ that is what your users actually experience.
Does low latency mean a fast website?
Not necessarily. Latency governs responsiveness while bandwidth governs throughput โ they are independent. For websites and APIs, latency is the primary metric; download or video workloads also need bandwidth. Combine with our VPS benchmark data for a full picture.
